Vapaudenpatsas

Vapaudenpatsas on suuri naishahmoa esittävä patsas New Yorkin
edustalla Liberty islandin saarella. Patsas on alunperin
Ranskasta sen lahjoitti Édouard de Laboulaye, joka halusi
juhlistaa yhdysvaltojen itsenäistymistä ja maiden alkanutta
ystävyysuhdetta.
Patsaan on veistänyt Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.

The Statue of Liberty depicts the Goddess of Liberty
. In her left hand she holds a tablet with the date
of the United States Declaration of Independence,
in her right hand she holds a torch of enlightenment,
and with her left foot the goddess is trampling
on broken chains. The female figure of the statue
is 46 meters high and the entire statue with its
pedestal is 93 meters high. The statue became
known not only as a symbol of freedom, but also
for welcoming the millions of immigrants who
arrived in New York by ship between 1886 and 1924.
